Rooftop Christmas Lights – Tips for Installing

Tips for Installing Rooftop Christmas Lights

Many people who celebrate the holidays love decking out their houses with bright rooftop Christmas lights. The final product results in an appealing set of lights but the process can often be a bit of a hassle. At ACCL Roofer we wanted to share the top 5 tips for installing rooftop Christmas lights, so you can get in the holiday spirit with no trouble at all!

Measure: Before buying your Christmas lights you should make sure to measure the distances along your roof. This will help prevent you from ending up with short lights or buying to many lights. You will also need to measure the distance from the roof to the power source to make sure your extension cords are also the right length.

Using Clips:

We recommend not using nails or staples to hang lights; instead use plastic clips or hooks to avoid damaging wires. Not only is it safer to use clips or hooks its more efficient and easier. Click here to read about holiday electric safety tips.

Inspecting Lights On the Ground:

Before putting up the lights you should lay them on the ground to test them out. Testing out your lights can help you look for broken bulbs, wires, and strayed cords. Its much easier to replace bulbs and lights when they are on the ground then it is once they’re on the roof.

Have Lights on a Timer:rooftop light

Using a time for turning on and off your lights is a great way for you not to have to worry about turning them off when you’re not using them.

Safety First:

When deciding to put Christmas lights along your homes exterior there are a few safety practices that you should focus on when lighting up your home. Most outdoor lights require a ladder we recommended this to be a two-person job in order to avoid injury from falling. Click here for safety tips
